Swedes are known for cars and safety innovations, the new Volvo S60 is design exclusive to keep that reputation. The car will be lunch in 2010 and in the standard equipment there are included a detection system for pedestrian and a full automatic braking to prevent accidents.
The developing of new systems took several years; their main purpose was to reduce the chances of an accident and to protect the life of passengers and pedestrians. The main component of the device is a radar system that is placed on the grid in front of the car and a video camera.
The radar have the function of detection objects around the car and measuring the distances between object, while the video camera determine what kind of object is. The first alert received by drivers is a combination of acoustic and light signals. If the driver does not respond on time and on-board systems indicate impending accident, the computer take control of the car, applying full braking.
