Three-dimensional color display for the windscreen
BMW engineers developed a new display for the windscreen, which will be three-dimensional and will have a wide range of colors.
BMW has announced that there engineers working on the second generation of the display system on the windscreen. Unlike the first generation of this display system, the new display system HUD (Head Up Display) will be three-dimensional and in colors.
Increased color spectrum of the display system will be useful for drivers and it will become an important standard on auto industry that will be integrated on many BMW models.
The display on the windscreen of the BMW will show the speed of vehicle and indications of navigation and legal regulations such as speed limits. Besides, drivers will be able to access the phone menu via vehicle controls and see the options available directly on display on the windscreen.
Using of the HUD display, the driver will have both hands on the wheel and eyes on the road. Unlike clocks display located between the wheel, HUD system display on the windscreen is transparent and does not require the driver to take eyes off the road. In order to present all the facts mentioned above, BMW will have to increase considerably the size of display, ground for which will change its name to "Head Up High".
Mini Crossover Concept is the first model designed by BMW Group that uses this particular system. The information needed for driver can be displayed on different levels, depending on their importance. Besides, the HUH system presented on Mini Crossover Concept allows displaying two different images one for the driver and one for the passenger - a concept already met in the Mercedes-Benz S-Klasse W221.
In the future, the quality of these displays will increase dramatically, following the elimination of classical panels from the vehicles.
