Japanese car manufacturer Nissan presented "Leaf", the first model car powered exclusive by electricity, marking the first concrete step in the new strategy, focused on marketing of vehicles with zero emissions.

"Leaf" was presented by Carlos Ghosn, president of the Nissan and Renault partner, on inauguration of the new Japanese headquarters at Yokohama.

Middle-size car with five seats will look like combustion vehicles from the same category, and will be equipped with a lithium battery, which will allow, according to Nissan, to run 160 kilometers without needing recharging. The car can reach a maximum speed of 140 kilometers per hour.

The manufacturer states that the model will be product in series at the end of 2010.

The Nissan group signed 27 cooperation agreements with different countries of the world, for creating a network of stations to recharge the batteries of this type, in order to facilitate the circulation of electric cars.

Leaf battery can be recharge at home from your own electric plug in just 8 hours. The car can be recharged at 80% of capacity in 30 minutes at the special stations. Autonomy of the car was calculated according to the studies, which showed that 90% of Americans do not run more than 160 kilometers per day.
