The new 2022 Volkswagen Polo GTI was unveiled. This automotive icon of the Volkswagen brand bursts onto the scene loaded with very important novelties. It is more powerful and boasts technological equipment, especially in terms of connectivity. However, under the hood, there is still a TSI petrol engine.

The wait is over. The new Volkswagen Polo GTI has been officially unveiled. After a series of spy photos and even official previews, this small and iconic Volkswagen sports utility undergoes a tune-up. A mid-cycle update will allow the current generation to face the rest of the commercial life ahead.

Suppose you are taking as a starting point the new Volkswagen Polo that is already being marketed and manufactured, the Volkswagen Polo GTI variant that will crown the range debuts numerous new features and improvements. There have been changes at the aesthetic, technological and mechanical levels. Let's go into detail and break down each of the main keys.

The design of the new 2022 Volkswagen Polo GTI

How has the Polo GTI changed? Take a quick look at the images that illustrate this article to discover the new aesthetic features that the Volkswagen Polo GTI sports car boasts. It comes standard with the new Matrix LED IQ-Light headlamps and an illuminated crossbar on the radiator grille as a significant complement to the daytime running lights.

Both the front and rear light clusters have been redesigned. In addition, we must remark the new specific bumpers for the GTI that help enhance the character that the German utility hides. We can also find the GTI logo and various details in red that have always accompanied this variant on the front and rear. In the same way, we must mention the exhaust system with two obvious exits.

The level of customization is excellent. The new Polo GTI is available in five colours: Deep Black Pearl Effect, Rauchgrau Metallic, Kings Red Metallic, Pure White Uni and Reef Blue Metallic. The last three can be optionally combined with the black roof. In addition, it is fitted with 17-inch light-alloy wheels as standard, revealing the red brake callipers. 18-inch wheels are optionally available.

The interior of the new 2022 Volkswagen Polo GTI

Leaving aside the exterior, if we venture inside the new Volkswagen Polo GTI sports car, we will quickly be enveloped by an atmosphere in which sportsmanship is breathed. The brand itself describes it as elegant and expressive. Black, red and grey are the primary colours. There are also numerous chrome details. The classic upholstery with a checkered motif and red stitching is present.

Among the components we must pay special attention to, we have the multifunctional leather sports steering wheel, multi-regulation sports seats, and a striking decoration for the instrument panel. Various finishes and colours are available to create a cabin that reflects its personality. Let's not forget the trim on the doors, gear lever, pedals and handbrake.

Surpassing the Polo range, the GTI sports car boasts standard equipment. Among its equipment, we have multiple airbags (front, side and curtain), air conditioning, height-adjustable front seats, electric windows, leather-covered handbrake and shift paddles on the multifunction leather sports steering wheel.

The technological equipment of the new 2022 Volkswagen Polo GTI

Beyond the design changes that we can find on the outside and inside, Volkswagen has allocated significant resources to turn the Polo GTI into a more connected car. Standard equipment includes the Ready2Discover infotainment system with an 8.0-inch touch screen. As an option, the Discover Media and Discover Pro systems come with a 9.2-inch touch screen.

These multimedia systems allow access to many online features such as We Connect and We Connect Plus services. In addition, they are compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Digitization is also present in the instrument cluster. The Volkswagen Digital Cockpit Pro also comes standard.

The list of driver assistance systems is extensive. For the first time, the Travel Assist system was integrated into the IQ-DRIVE package of driving assistants from the Volkswagen Polo GTI. Among other functions, we will find adaptive and predictive cruise control, lane departure warning/maintenance, parking exit assistant, Front Assist surveillance system with detection of pedestrians and cyclists, emergency braking in the city, detection of fatigue, multi-collision brake and Park Assist parking assistance.

The engine of the new 2022 Volkswagen Polo GTI

About the mechanical section, if we look under the hood of the new Volkswagen Polo GTI, we will find a 2.0-litre TSI gasoline engine that develops a power of 207 hp and 320 Nm of maximum torque. Compared to the current Polo model, this is a slight increase in power of 7 hp. This power is controlled with a seven-speed dual-clutch DSG automatic gearbox as well as a front-wheel-drive system.

The new 2022 Volkswagen Polo GTI sports car can accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 240 km / h. They are exciting features for a vehicle in its category. In addition, through the "Sport Select" drafting train and the selection of the driving profile, we can configure the behaviour of the model according to our needs. You can choose between the following driving modes: Eco, Individual, Normal and Sport.

Based on the chosen profile, the behaviour of the gearbox, suspension, steering and even the sound emanating from the exhaust system will vary. Compared to a conventional Polo, the bodywork of the GTI model is 15mm lower. The configurator of the new Polo GTI will open after summer. @via VW UK.
