AMG built a racing car without the regulatory limitations that slow down its alter-ego destined for competitions. We are talking about the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55, the racing car produced in a limited edition of 5 units that celebrates 55 years of the Affalterbach sports department. It is an almost identical replica of the Amg GT3 that won the 24 Hours of Spa endurance racing just a few weeks ago; however free from regulatory constraints and therefore credited with 100 hp more.
The price of the Mercedes-AMG Gt3 Edition 55 starts at $622,000. The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55 also includes a unique version of the IWC Schaffhausen watch, with the car's corresponding chassis number engraved on the case back.
The Amg GT3 Edition 55 is recognizable at the first blink of an eye from the gray livery with red accents distributed throughout the bodywork, dominated by the enormous rear wing. It has a matte finish and is made of carbon like the front splitter and diffuser, while the tailpipes are in Inconel. The Amg logo has been embossed on the doors, while the interiors have been decorated with the words "Edition 55 - 1 OF 5".
The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 55's interior features the typical minimalist layout of race cars, complete with a Bosch-developed display that shows the most relevant data on speed, engine speed, operating temperatures, lap times, gear indicators, and other additional information. As mentioned, the 6.3-liter V8 engine reached 650 hp, about 100 more than the FIA-approved version. On request, however, it is also possible to have it in a racing configuration. Unfortunately, no official performance data was provided.
