The new Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid has just been unveiled internationally. The most advanced, secure and well-equipped version ever of the regular off-road icon does not compromise on its heritage. On the contrary, it uses technology to strengthen its position.

Since the model rolled off the assembly line for the first time in 1986, it has been loved for its distinct Jeep heritage and for its strong off-road performance that has given it a unique position in the market. It has been continuously developed, and now it takes another big step and comes as a plug-in hybrid in the form of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. It thus continues Jeep's efforts to electrify the brand's models without compromising on its classic features. Instead, it utilizes the technology to achieve even better off-road performance.

Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid

The Jeep Wrangler has always had a distinctive design and expression, and that has not changed with the new Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid. The logos on the car have an electric-blue outline, and the plug for charging is located on the left side of the car in front, so there is easy access to it when parking at charging points. It is also placed high to ensure that it does not affect the model's ability to pass over water.

The equipment in the cabin helps make the Jeep Wrangler 4xe the most high-tech Wrangler ever. It has a 7-inch TFT colour display in the instrumentation in front of the steering wheel, an 8.4-inch touch screen with the Uconnect infotainment system, which also offers Apple Carplay, Android Auto and navigation. On top of the instrument panel is an LED battery indicator, which provides a quick overview of the charging status.

The driveline is special as it combines two electric motors with a 400V battery with an efficient, 4-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine and an 8-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission. The system output is 380 hp and 637 Nm. The first electric motor is a BSG motor, which is mounted on the petrol engine and works with it, and which can also act as a generator if needed. The second electric motor offers 145 hp and is built into the gearbox, where it ensures propulsion and regains energy during braking.

The driveline has two couplings. The first sits between the internal combustion engine and the electric motor. It can decouple the internal combustion engine and make it possible to run on pure electricity with a range of up to 45 km WLTP. When it engages, the forces from the electric motor are combined with the forces from the internal combustion engine. The second clutch is located behind the electric motor. It is connected to the gearbox and ensures driving characteristics and efficiency. 0-100 km / h takes just 6.4 seconds, which is especially impressive when taking into account the size and weight of the car. At the same time, CO2 emissions reduced by almost 70 % WLTP compared to internal combustion engines.

The battery is 17 kWh. It can be charged with up to 7.3 kW and it is located under the rear seats where it is well protected from the elements. The location means that the boot space is the same (533 litres), that the fuel tank has the same capacity (65 litres), and that the space on the rear seat is the same as in the conventional Wrangler. The battery is encapsulated in aluminium and has its own heating and cooling system to ensure optimal operating conditions. All electrical systems and components are sealed and waterproof. That's why the Jeep Wrangler 4xe can handle water depths of 76 cm, just like any other Trail Rated Jeeps.

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid has three Hybrid Modes that allow you to choose the right setting for any occasion. The 'Hybrid' mode combines the internal combustion engine with the electric motor, with 'Electric' mode the car is powered by electricity alone, and in 'eSave' mode the car is driven by the internal combustion engine, which saves the battery for later use. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe recovers the braking energy as soon as the driver steps on the brake pedal, and when the 4x4 is in use, all four wheels recover braking energy for the battery.

The new Jeep Wrangler 4xe is the safest Wrangler ever. As standard, it comes with full LED light, blind spot alarm, reversing camera, ESC (Electronic Stability Control), front and rear parking sensors, automatic emergency brake, adaptive cruise control and automatic high beam.

The Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid has a price starting from 69,500 euros. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe 80th Anniversary is being offered for 72,500 euros. The eep Wrangler 4Xe Rubicon, which is particularly suitable for off-road use, is available for 71,000 euros.
