Four years ago, Volkswagen launched the second generation of the Tiguan compact SUV. It soon became the best-selling car of the entire Volkswagen Group. Now, the German brand renews it slightly on the outside and deeply on the inside to stay on the top of the wave in the global market.
Aesthetically, the new Tiguan is renewed especially on the front, with new headlamps and a redesigned bumper. In this sense, Volkswagen has opted to follow the line set by the new VW Golf, with which it now has much more similarity.
Inside, the main changes will go through the introduction of Volkswagen's new infotainment system, MIB3, with which it will be permanently connected to the Internet. This will be managed from a 9.2-inch digital display and will be compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Optionally you can have a premium sound system signed by Harman Kardon.
One of the main novelties of the new Tiguan will be its eHybrid version. It will combine a TSI gasoline engine with an electric engine for a total power of 245 hp and 400 Nm of maximum torque. The electric engine will be powered by a 13 kWh capacity battery that will allow it to circulate electrically up to 50 kilometres at a maximum of 130 km / h.
Beyond the electrified variant, Volkswagen has also confirmed that it will have gasoline, TSI, and diesel options.
Gasoline engine fans will be able to purchase the Volkswagen Tiguan facelift with the 1.5-liter TSI gasoline engine, available in 130 hp and 150 hp versions. The more powerful version can be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission or a 7-speed DSG gearbox, while the basic version relies solely on the manual.
Meanwhile, those who prefer diesel engines have only the 2.0-liter TDI unit and 150 hp that comes with a DSG gearbox and 4Motion all-wheel-drive system.
Finally, the most striking novelty on the technological level is the Travel Assist system, which steers the steering wheel, maintains speed, safety distance and the position of the Tiguan on the road.
There is also a new extreme Volkswagen Tiguan R version, which with 320 HP will become its most powerful variant. As usual, the Tiguan R will feature exclusive oversized bumpers with larger air intakes, a sports diffuser, optional exhaust vents and 21-inch wheels.
