Ford has launched a new electrified version for the Kuga SUV. The new Ford Kuga Hybrid automatically switches between petrol-electric and pure-electric propulsion for a sublime driving experience and a range of 1,000 km. The new FHEV (Full Hybrid Electric Vehicle) has a 1.1 kWh battery with self-charging function and a propulsion system that develops a total of 190 hp.
With the new Kuga hybrid, the SUV is now available both as a rechargeable hybrid, full hybrid and mild hybrid. In addition, the Kuga is available with Ford's 2.0-litre EcoBlue diesel in combination with four-wheel drive.
The Ford Kuga hybrid can only be driven in the electric mode for shorter periods. The ability to drive up to 1000 km on a single tank of fuel makes the Kuga hybrid a compelling alternative to diesel models. The fuel consumption according to the WLTP measurement method is 5.4l / 100 Km and CO2 emissions from 125 g / km.
Due to the fact that it does not require an external power supply to charge the battery, Ford Kuga Hybrid is an attractive choice for customers who want an electrified propulsion system but who have limited access to charging solutions at home or at work.
The 60-cell battery pack uses a liquid cooling system that eliminates the need for a cooling fan, helping to reduce noise levels. The optimized battery cooling also means that the batteries can be packed closer together and free up more space in the passenger compartment. Behind the front seats, you can get up to 1481 litres of cargo space. Improved battery performance also contributes to a towing capacity of up to 1,600Kg.
The technology in the CVT gearbox has been developed to mimic the gear changes in a conventional automatic gearbox. The simulated gear shift function activated in Sport and Normal driving modes automatically adjusts the engine torque, which ensures smoother gear changes and a better driving experience. The latest generation of the Ford transmission is specially designed to run on the 2.5-litre petrol engine. Acceleration 0-100 Km / h is done in 9.1 seconds for the front-wheel-drive variant.
Ford's intelligent four-wheel drive system also provides better manoeuvrability, while having minimal effect on fuel consumption.
The new Ford Kuga Hybrid will be offered in a wide range of variants, including Trend, Titanium, Titanium X, ST Line, ST Line X and Vignale.
The new Ford Kuga also comes with a FordPass Connect integrated modem that turns the car into a mobile WiFi hotspot.
The new Ford Kuga Hybrid is already in production. The manufacturing takes place in Spain. More specifically in the facilities that Ford has in Almussafes, Valencia. The advanced lithium-ion battery pack is also installed here.
The new Ford Kuga Hybrid in the ST-line version has a starting price of 50,705 euros.
