DIY Maintenance

Car maintenance at home is one of the very best ways of saving money. Labour and parts from a mechanic are often very expensive, and if you can do the work yourself, you’re essentially getting the work for free.

There are a lot of different things that you can do at home that you might never have thought of before. Some of the things you’ll be able to change yourself include:

  • Air filter
  • Brake discs
  • Brake pads
  • Fuel filter
  • Oil filter

In most cases, these maintenance jobs are a simple case of locating the part, removing a cover, taking out the old part, and putting a new one in place. Difficulty will vary, but none of the above jobs should take more than an hour or so, even if you’re doing it for the first time.

garage tools

Generally, anything that you’d consider wear and tear is easily do-able at home with relatively basic garage tools. A model-specific guide is always helpful too. Remember to stay safe, and don’t attempt something which you aren’t comfortable with; when in doubt, see a professional.
