Ford Ranger MS-RT Plug-In Hybrid Pickup Delivers 697 Nm & 3.5 T Towing

Ford Ranger MS-RT Plug-In Hybrid Pickup Delivers 697 Nm & 3.5 T Towing

Brand

  • Ford

Ford has introduced a new racing-inspired Ranger MS-RT Plug-In Hybrid, combining 281 horsepower, 697 Nm of torque, and the same rugged practicality that made the Ranger Europe’s top-selling pickup. This launch strengthens Ford’s foothold in the electrified truck segment while maintaining its commercial edge.

A Racing DNA Built for Real Work

Developed jointly with Ford’s global MS-RT team and its rally partner M-Sport, the Ranger MS-RT PHEV targets a growing segment of drivers who want both performance and utility. It makes its world debut at the 2025 IAA Mobility Show in Munich, signaling Ford’s continued investment in performance-driven electrification.

The truck’s 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine pairs with a 75 kW electric motor and 11.8 kWh battery, connected through a 10-speed automatic transmission. Together, they generate 281 horsepower (210 kW) and 697 Nm of torque, the most ever in a Ranger production model.

  • All-electric range: up to 43 km (27 miles)
  • Towing capacity: up to 3,500 kg (7,716 lbs)
  • Payload: up to 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs)

That range may seem modest, but it covers daily driving for over half of Ranger owners, according to Ford’s internal data.

Electrified Strength Without Compromise

The Ranger MS-RT Plug-In Hybrid keeps its full towing and payload capabilities, a priority for Ford Pro’s commercial customers. The e-4WD system, differential lock, and multiple drive modes — including Eco, Tow, Mud, Slippery, and Sand — ensure consistent traction across conditions.

Ford’s engineering approach balances battery efficiency with towing stability, addressing a frequent weakness in electric trucks. The 10-speed gearbox keeps torque accessible even under load, while regenerative braking recovers energy during deceleration.

This configuration makes the MS-RT not just a performance truck, but a tool for businesses that need power without sacrificing sustainability.

Designed Like a Race Truck, Built to Work

Visually, the Ranger MS-RT PHEV takes cues from rally pickup design. The front end wears a honeycomb grille, a sport bumper, and integrated diffuser. Wider wheel arches house 21-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels wrapped in 275/45 R21 low-profile tires.

The truck’s stance tells the rest of the story:

  • Suspension lowered by 40 mm
  • Track widened by 40 mm per side
  • Overall width increased by 82 mm

This setup improves cornering stability and ride precision without hurting ground clearance for most driving needs. Dual spoilers — one on the tailgate and one on the roof — increase aerodynamic balance at higher speeds.

Ford’s MS-RT team tuned the dampers and rear setup for comfort and control. Combined with the hybrid system’s low-end torque, the truck accelerates smoothly and holds line stability in tight corners.

Premium Cabin Meets MS-RT Style

Inside, the MS-RT treatment continues. The cabin features sports seats in suede and synthetic leather with blue contrast stitching, ambient LED lighting, and a flat-bottom heated sport steering wheel. The driver interface centers around a 12-inch touchscreen running SYNC 4A, offering voice control, wireless smartphone integration, and live navigation.

Practicality stays intact:

  • Multiple storage compartments for tools and devices
  • Durable floor mats and door scuff plates
  • Smart driver-assistance features standard across the MS-RT trim

This balance between ruggedness and refinement positions the Ranger MS-RT between Ford’s work-focused Wildtrak X and the performance-oriented Raptor — a sweet spot for professionals who also care about driving dynamics.

Built in Britain, Engineered for Precision

All Ranger MS-RT Plug-In Hybrid models will be assembled and finalized at Ford’s Dagenham facility in the UK, close to Ford Pro’s engineering center at Dunton Campus. The plant integrates semi-automated paint systems, dual assembly lines, and a customer service hub, creating a lean pipeline from design to delivery.

This manufacturing focus reinforces Ford’s Pro business strategy, where performance models share production intelligence with fleet and utility variants, reducing downtime and maintaining consistent quality.

Paint and Customization Options

Ford will offer the Ranger MS-RT PHEV in several exclusive paint finishes, including:

  • Turini Purple (new)
  • Fast Blue
  • Yellow Green
  • Plus other premium MS-RT colorways

These finishes highlight the widened body and aerodynamic elements, emphasizing the visual link between Ford’s motorsport division and its commercial lineup.

The Hybrid Pickup Formula That Works

With 281 horsepower and nearly 700 Nm of torque, the MS-RT Plug-In Hybrid delivers V6-level performance with reduced fuel use and urban-driving flexibility. The hybrid setup allows short all-electric operation while maintaining full load and towing functionality on longer hauls.

Ford’s hybrid pickup strategy follows clear customer trends:

  1. Electric-only city use for business or commute.
  2. Hybrid power for towing and long trips.
  3. Lower emissions without losing practicality.

This formula aligns with Ford Pro’s larger electrification plan — offering transition-ready vehicles for operators not yet ready to move fully electric.

Market Position and Pricing

While Ford has not released official global pricing, based on current European conversion rates, the Ranger MS-RT Plug-In Hybrid is expected to start around $70,000 USD, positioning it above the Wildtrak X but below the Raptor.

The pricing strategy targets business owners and enthusiasts who value premium performance and visual differentiation, not just efficiency.

Model VariantPowertrainTorque (Nm)Range (km)Est. Price (USD)
Ranger Wildtrak X2.0L Diesel500-$58,000
Ranger Raptor3.0L V6 Gas583-$78,000
Ranger MS-RT PHEV2.3L EcoBoost + Hybrid69743 (EV)~$70,000

This places the MS-RT squarely in the middle of Ford’s Ranger hierarchy — high-performance without the extreme off-road specialization of the Raptor.

Strategic Value: The Hybrid Advantage

For Ford, the Ranger MS-RT PHEV fills a critical transition role in its European lineup. Many fleet and private customers still need towing capacity and payload reliability, which full EVs struggle to match.

By blending a gasoline engine with electric assist, Ford gives users access to reduced emissions, tax incentives, and lower urban operating costs, without altering their existing work cycles.

The model also demonstrates Ford’s modular platform strategy, where electrification can scale across variants. Expect lessons from the MS-RT’s hybrid system to inform future Ford Pro products, including Transit and Ranger EV programs.

Performance, Not Just Efficiency

Every MS-RT variant serves as a halo for Ford’s commercial performance line. The hybrid pickup’s acceleration and handling targets were set by the same engineers who tune Ford’s rally machines. The goal wasn’t only efficiency — it was engagement.

With instant electric torque, lowered suspension, and enhanced steering response, the MS-RT feels planted and direct. Ford engineers confirmed improved lateral grip from the wider stance and sharper steering accuracy under load.

For drivers, that translates into confidence on winding roads and stability during towing — rare traits in any midsize pickup.

Launch Timeline and Availability

Ford confirmed orders will open late 2025, with first deliveries expected in 2026. Production will focus on Europe first, with potential availability in select global markets depending on regional hybrid demand and emissions regulations.

Ford’s European Pro network — with 82 sales and service points in Norway alone — is preparing training and parts support to handle hybrid-specific maintenance.

Outlook: Ford’s Smart Hybrid Strategy

The Ranger MS-RT Plug-In Hybrid signals Ford’s pragmatic approach to electrification — meeting drivers where they are today, not pushing them faster than infrastructure allows.

Key advantages:

  • Hybrid capability without compromise
  • MS-RT styling that connects with Ford’s motorsport DNA
  • Ranger’s proven load and tow ratings retained

For buyers who need a powerful pickup that works as hard as it looks, the MS-RT Plug-In Hybrid offers a measurable step forward. It blends real performance, proven durability, and hybrid flexibility — the combination the market has been waiting for.
