2026 Nissan Tekton Packs Patrol Style and 161 HP From $11,100

  • Nissan

The 2026 Nissan Tekton places Nissan back in the center of India's highly contested compact SUV class. Developed and manufactured in India, the five-seat Tekton combines Patrol-inspired styling, two turbocharged gasoline engines, generous cargo capacity, and an estimated starting price near $11,100.

Nissan also designed the Nissan Tekton SUV as an export product. That decision gives the company a cost-efficient model for selected international markets while adding much-needed sales volume to its Indian manufacturing operation.

The recipe looks practical rather than experimental. Nissan shares the underlying CMF-B architecture with the Renault Duster, then gives the Tekton its own body details, cabin identity, equipment structure, and driving calibration.

Nissan Tekton Dimensions Target Family-SUV Buyers

The Tekton measures 4,348 mm long, 1,815 mm wide, and 1,674 mm tall, equal to 171.2, 71.5, and 65.9 inches. Its 2,657-mm wheelbase spans 104.6 inches, placing the axles far enough apart to support useful second-row legroom without creating an oversized urban footprint.

Looking at the data, Nissan has positioned the Tekton between smaller sub-four-meter SUVs and larger vehicles such as the Mahindra XUV700. Its dimensions sit close to those of the Hyundai Creta and Maruti Grand Vitara, though the longer 2026 Kia Seltos offers additional overall length and wheelbase.

The 212-mm ground clearance ranks among the Tekton's strongest functional advantages. It provides 22 mm more clearance than the Creta and roughly matches the Grand Vitara, helping the Nissan pass over deep ruts, broken pavement, steep parking ramps, and poorly shaped speed humps.

Nissan quotes 518 liters of luggage capacity below the parcel shelf and approximately 700 liters when measured to the roof. Those figures describe two measurement methods rather than two different trunks. The lower number provides the fairer competitor comparison.

Patrol-Inspired Design Gives the Tekton Its Own Identity

Nissan avoids making the Tekton look like a Duster with a different grille. The front receives a wide chrome element influenced by the Patrol, C-shaped five-chamber LED lighting, a full-width lighting signature, and a contrasting skid-plate treatment.

Squared wheel arches and 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels add visual width. At the rear, connected LED lamps, large Tekton lettering, and a roof spoiler create a clear Nissan identity.

Image

The proportions also serve practical goals:

  • A tall hood gives the driver a clear sense of the front corners.
  • Short overhangs reduce the amount of bodywork exposed on steep ramps.
  • Black lower cladding protects painted surfaces from minor road debris.
  • Roof rails add mounting points for cargo carriers.
  • The high roof supports headroom without stretching the vehicle's length.

From an expert perspective, the Patrol cues sell toughness, but the Tekton remains a front-wheel-drive family crossover. Nissan has not presented a four-wheel-drive version, low-range gearing, or locking differentials. Buyers should view its clearance as protection for bad roads, not proof of heavy off-road ability.

Two Turbo Gasoline Engines Cover Different Budgets

Nissan offers 1.0-liter and 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engines. The entry engine produces 100 PS, or about 99 hp, and 166 Nm, equal to 122 lb-ft. Nissan pairs it with a six-speed manual transmission.

The larger 1.3-liter unit develops 163 PS, equivalent to approximately 161 hp, plus 280 Nm or 207 lb-ft. Buyers can pair it with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed wet-clutch dual-clutch transmission.

Best useUrban driving and lower purchase costHighway passing and full-load driving

The wet-clutch DCT uses transmission fluid to manage heat around the clutch packs. Specifically, that configuration suits dense traffic and high ambient temperatures better than many dry-clutch designs, which can accumulate heat during repeated low-speed creeping.

The 1.3-liter engine provides 69 percent more torque than the 1.0-liter unit. Consequently, it should feel substantially stronger with passengers and luggage aboard, despite a relatively modest 64-hp output increase.

Nissan does not offer a diesel or hybrid. That omission simplifies production, but it leaves open space for the Creta and Seltos diesel variants, along with the Grand Vitara strong hybrid.

Pro-Tip: Which Nissan Tekton Engine Should You Buy?

Choose the 1.0-liter manual if most trips involve light urban use and purchase price carries the most weight. Choose the 1.3-liter engine for regular highway driving, steep terrain, or a cabin frequently filled with four adults and cargo.

The 1.3-liter DCT costs more, but its additional torque and automatic shifting should provide the better long-term ownership experience for mixed driving. Test it in slow traffic before buying, since dual-clutch calibration matters as much as the transmission's gear count.

Cabin Technology Moves Nissan Upmarket

The Tekton cabin uses a 10.1-inch central touchscreen and a 10.25-inch digital instrument display. Google built-in services provide navigation and connected functions, while wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support drivers who prefer smartphone-based apps.

Upper grades add equipment normally associated with pricier SUVs:

  • Six-way powered and ventilated front seats
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Wireless phone charging with cooling
  • Arkamys six-speaker audio
  • Air purifier and ambient lighting
  • Powered tailgate
  • Automatic headlights
  • Rear air vents
  • Paddle shifters
  • Multiple drive modes

The tri-tone black, white, and purple cabin creates a distinctive appearance, though pale surfaces may demand frequent cleaning. Physical toggle-style climate controls provide a useful ergonomic advantage because drivers can adjust temperature and fan settings without opening an on-screen menu.

Six Airbags and Level 2 ADAS Lead the Safety Package

Six airbags establish the Tekton's basic passive-safety package. Nissan supplements them with electronic stability control, hill-start assistance, an electronic parking brake, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.

Upper variants receive Level 2 ADAS, including functions such as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot assistance, and automated driver warnings. Drivers must remain responsible for steering, braking, and road observation because Level 2 systems provide assistance rather than autonomous operation.

The Tekton has also received a five-star Bharat NCAP rating. That result strengthens its case against established rivals, although shoppers should compare the exact safety content fitted to each grade because lower and upper trims may carry different assistance systems.

Nissan Tekton Price Undercuts Key Rivals

Indian ex-showroom prices run from approximately $11,100 to $19,700, converted at about 94.5 Indian rupees per US dollar. Taxes, registration costs, insurance, and local dealer fees sit outside those figures.

SUVApproximate Price Range in USDPowertrain AdvantageTekton Win/Loss
Nissan Tekton$11,100-$19,700161-hp turbo and wet DCTStrong value and cargo capacity
Hyundai Creta$11,400-$21,400Gasoline and diesel selectionTekton has more clearance
Kia Seltos$11,600-$21,200Wider engine and trim selectionSeltos has a longer wheelbase
Maruti Grand Vitara$11,400-$20,900Hybrid and available AWDTekton has stronger turbo output

Nissan prices the Tekton's base grade close to the segment leaders while keeping the flagship version below several top-trim competitors. In addition, the Visia, Visia+, Acenta, N-Connecta, Tekna, and Tekna+ structure lets buyers select equipment without immediately moving to the most expensive model.

Why the Nissan Tekton Carries Strategic Weight

Nissan needs the Tekton to produce volume. The Nissan Magnite SUV gave the company an affordable entry point in India, but one small crossover could not cover the country's core midsize SUV demand.

Local production reduces manufacturing and logistics costs. Exporting the same vehicle can raise factory utilization, spread engineering expenses across more units, and support competitive pricing in other markets.

The Tekton also gives Nissan a credible middle position. It offers more power and cargo room than many value-focused alternatives, while its price remains below larger premium SUVs. That combination makes the Nissan Tekton price, 161-hp turbo engine, 212-mm clearance, and Patrol-inspired design its strongest sales arguments.

Final Verdict

The all-new Nissan Tekton arrives with the right measurements, equipment, and pricing to compete for meaningful volume. Its spacious cargo area, high clearance, 280-Nm engine, wet-clutch DCT, and extensive safety technology create a convincing specification sheet.

The missing hybrid, diesel, and all-wheel-drive options limit its reach. Still, Nissan has priced the Tekton aggressively enough to offset those gaps for many urban and family buyers.

For Nissan, this SUV represents a major commercial test. For shoppers, it presents a practical alternative to the Creta, Seltos, and Grand Vitara without sacrificing power, technology, or road presence.
