Geely, the first independent automaker in the PRC, is a reference in quality and technology, and it has been distributing vehicles in the rest of the planet for several years. That developing vanguard put it one step ahead in the face of the coronavirus threat: a Geely model, the Icon, is the first to offer a particle filter that prevents certain bacteria from entering the cabin that no other model can filter.
The brand new Geely Icon, which the Chinese giant just launched on the market a few weeks ago, is the first vehicle to have an N95 air filter certificate. This implies that the system can trap 95% of the 0.3-micron particles before they enter the cabin.
In truth, the virus that causes Covid-19 is smaller than 0.3 microns in diameter (averages between 0.06 to 0.14 microns), but since it is transmitted by respiratory drops, those particles that carry it are enough. large enough to be filtered by the N95. According to Geely, the purification system works in conjunction with the air conditioning to isolate and eliminate harmful elements in the cabin, including bacteria and viruses.
This luxury SUV an interior designed in Barcelona with two interactive 10.25-inch screens, a huge and attractive information panel and a very futuristic centre console. As soon as it was put on sale, the Icon subcompact SUV received more than 30,000 bookings of the model, something unprecedented in Geely's short history.
Geely Icon luxury SUV is built on the BMA platform and has a wheelbase of 2,640 millimetres. To give you an idea, a Nissan Qashqai is 2,646 millimetres. It must also be said that it measures 4.35 meters long, 1.81 meters wide and 1.61 meters high.
With a hybrid engine and semi-autonomous driving systems, the Geely Icon is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder gasoline engine hooked to a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and a superb seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The gasoline engine produces 174 HP (177 PS / 130 kW) and 255 Nm (188 lb-ft) of torque on its own, while the 48-volt system provides a further 10 kW (13.4 HP / 13.6 PS) of power and 45 Nm (33 lb-ft) of torque. So it is not surprising that it accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.9 seconds.
Its price for the Chinese market is between 15,000 and 16,800 euros.
Geely Icon luxury SUV has an average fuel consumption of 5.7 l/100 km (41.2 mpg US).
A few weeks ago, the president and CEO of Geely announced an investment of 52 million euros to build cars that purify the air and filter viruses.
