The new 2022 Lexus NX is the second generation of the model. The new SUV model with a 4.66-meter long body comes between the Lexus UX and the RX. The Lexus NX is built on the same TNGA-K platform on which the Toyota RAV4 is based and, compared to the previous NX, it offers greater rigidity and lightness. To achieve this, Lexus has used more aluminium and high-strength steel.
Compared to the previous generation, the 2022 Lexus NX grows slightly. It is two centimetres longer and wider, and it is also half a centimetre taller than the previous one. The new SUV has a plug-in hybrid option in the range of engines, in addition to the previously available non-plug-in hybrid.
A plug-in hybrid configuration that it shares with the RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid, based on a 2.5-litre, four-cylinder engine, assisted by two electric motors and with a four-wheel-drive system. Together with a battery of 18.1 kWh and offering a power of 306 hp, in addition to 63 km in purely electrical mode. In its non-plug-in hybrid configuration, the 2022 Lexus NX offers 242 hp (197 hp in the previous generation). The non-plug-in hybrid is called Lexus NX 350h and the plug-in hybrid is called Lexus NX 450h +.
In addition to the hybrid, plug-in and non-plug-in versions, in some markets, the Japanese firm will sell the new Lexus NX with a classic internal combustion engine. It will be available with a 199 hp naturally aspirated gasoline engine and a 279 hp turbo gasoline engine under the names NX 250 and NX 350.
In addition to all the above changes, a new dashboard has been introduced on the Lexus NX SUV. The interior changes completely, among other things, with a 14-inch diagonal multimedia screen compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The instrument panel is digital and in addition, it can have a Head-Up Display to project all kinds of information relevant to driving on the windshield. The software behind the instrument panel not only reacts faster but is also always online, which makes it possible, for example, to access real-time traffic information. It's free for the first four years. The system can also be controlled using voice commands.
The Lexus Safety System package of safety equipment is included as a standard in all configurations of the 2022 Lexus NX SUV. This means that the SUV is always equipped with the automatic city emergency braking system with pedestrian and cyclist recognition, active cruise control with lane-keeping and some other driving assistance systems, like the parking assistance system.
