Audi Electrifies Luxury SUVs: New Q7 TFSI e quattro & Q8 TFSI e quattro

Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro

German automaker Audi aims to steal a march on its electric SUV rivals with a significant upgrade to its Q7 TFSI e quattro and Q8 TFSI e quattro plug-in hybrid models (PHEVs). This update's hallmarks are maximum efficiency and increased electric range, making these luxury SUVs even more attractive to eco-conscious drivers seeking spacious and performance-oriented options.

More Power, More Range: A Winning Combination

At the heart of the upgrade lies a new and improved powertrain. A 3.0-liter V6 TFSI engine generating 340 horsepower works in tandem with a potent electric motor, delivering 130 kW of output and 460 Nm of torque. A new, high-capacity lithium-ion battery further enhances this muscular combination.

The new battery boasts a clever design using 17 cells stacked in modules, maximizing power output within a compact footprint. The result? An electric-only range of up to 90 kilometers (56 miles), according to Audi's WLTP EAER City standard. This translates to near-silent, emissions-free commutes and errands in urban environments – a major benefit for drivers navigating city congestion.

Efficiency Reigns Supreme

But the upgrades extend beyond headline figures. Audi has prioritized efficiency throughout the PHEV system. A new feature is the ability to intelligently recharge the battery only when the vehicle reaches speeds exceeding 65 km/h (40 mph) in charge mode. This optimization ensures maximum efficiency and reserves battery power for electric driving in city centers where it's most beneficial.

Furthermore, the system prioritizes recuperation (capturing energy during braking) to recharge the battery in charge mode, minimizing reliance on the gasoline engine for this purpose. These improvements translate to lower fuel consumption and reduced emissions, making the Q7 TFSI e quattro and Q8 TFSI e quattro even more environmentally friendly.

Designed to Impress

The upgrades extend beyond the powertrain. Audi hasn't neglected aesthetics. Both SUVs receive a subtle design refresh, featuring new front and rear aprons that accentuate their powerful stances. These revisions maintain the signature Audi design language while injecting a touch of contemporary flair.

Technology and Performance Take Center Stage

Technology enthusiasts will appreciate the inclusion of all-wheel steering as an option for the first time on these PHEVs. This feature enhances maneuverability at low speeds and stability at higher speeds, offering drivers a more dynamic and confidence-inspiring experience behind the wheel.

Another noteworthy addition is electromechanical active roll stabilization (eAWS). This technology actively counteracts body roll during cornering, ensuring a flatter and more planted feel, particularly when tackling twisty roads. Combining these innovations promises a truly engaging driving experience without sacrificing comfort or everyday practicality.

Spacious Interiors Remain a Hallmark

Despite the focus on electrification and performance, Audi hasn't forgotten the core strengths that have made the Audi Q7 and Audi Q8 such popular choices. Spacious and luxurious interiors continue to be a major selling point. Both SUVs offer ample passenger and cargo room, making them ideal for families and those who require versatility in their daily lives.

Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro

A compelling proposition for luxury SUV buyers

The revamped Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro and Q8 TFSI e quattro SUVs represent a compelling proposition for luxury SUV buyers seeking a blend of electrification, efficiency, performance, and practicality. With an extended electric range, impressive technology upgrades, and a refreshed design, these PHEVs are poised to be strong contenders in the ever-growing electrified luxury SUV market.

Pricing and Availability

The new Audi Q7 TFSI e quattro starts at $93,820, while the Q8 TFSI e quattro begins at $102,000. Both models are available to order now and are expected to arrive in dealerships later in 2024.
