Ford Mustang GT4: The Ultimate Track Weapon for Aspiring Racers

Ford Mustang GT4

If you are looking for a race car that combines the legendary performance of the Ford Mustang with the latest technology and engineering, you might want to check out the new Ford Mustang GT4. This is the entry-level race car that Ford has developed for the SRO GT4 category, which is one of the most competitive and diverse racing classes in the world.

The Ford Mustang GT4 is based on the 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse, the track-focused version of the seventh-generation Mustang that goes on sale later this summer. The Dark Horse features a 5.0-liter V8 engine that delivers 500 horsepower and 480 pound-feet of torque, as well as a host of upgrades such as Brembo brakes, MagneRide suspension, Recaro seats, and a carbon-fiber hood.

Ford Mustang GT4

The Ford Mustang GT4 takes the Dark Horse to the next level, with a racing version of the Coyote-based V8 engine tuned for motorsport and developed in-house by Ford Performance. The engine is also built by Ford in Dearborn, Michigan, and features a dry-sump lubrication system, a stainless steel exhaust system, and a custom ECU. The power is transmitted to the rear wheels via a Holinger dog-ring gearbox with paddle shifters and pneumatic actuation.

The GT4 also benefits from the expertise of Multimatic. This Canadian engineering firm has partnered with Ford on several projects, including the Ford GT supercar and the Aston Martin Valkyrie hypercar. Multimatic is responsible for building the GT4 race cars, as well as supplying its impressive DSSV dampers, which are also used on the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE and the Colorado ZR2.

The Ford Mustang GT4 features a lightweight bodywork made from natural fibers, which reduces the weight and improves the aerodynamics. The car also sports a unique aero package that meets the GT4 regulations, including a front splitter, canards, a vented hood, a large rear wing, and a diffuser. The car rides on 18-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport GT tires.

Ford Mustang GT4

The interior of the GT4 is stripped down to the essentials, with a FIA-standard race seat, a five-point harness and lateral restraints, an ATL fuel bladder, an FIA/IMSA-compliant fire suppression system, and a digital instrument cluster. The car also features an FIA-specification roll cage by Watson Engineering, which adds rigidity and safety.

The Ford Mustang GT4 is designed to compete in multiple series in the U.S. and Europe and in mixed GT3 and GT4 fields in leagues like the British GT Championship. The car will face tough competition from other GT4 cars such as the Aston Martin Vantage, Audi R8, BMW M4, McLaren 570S, Porsche Cayman, Toyota GR Supra, and more.

The Ford Mustang GT4 is part of Ford’s growing range of Mustang race cars, which also includes the Mustang GT3 that will compete at Le Mans next year, the Dark Horse R track toy that could form the basis of a new one-make racing series, the Dark Horse S for weekend track days, and an NHRA drag racer.

Ford has not announced how much the Mustang GT4 will cost, but it is expected to be around $250,000, which is significantly cheaper than the GT3 that goes for $500,000. The car will be delivered to customer teams in time for the 2024 motorsports season.

Ford Mustang GT4

If you are interested in buying or racing a Ford Mustang GT4, you can contact Ford Performance or Multimatic for more information. You can also visit their websites to learn more about their products and services.

The Ford Mustang GT4 is a stunning race car that combines the heritage and passion of the Mustang with the innovation and excellence of Ford Performance and Multimatic. It is a car that will appeal to both amateur and professional racers who want to experience the thrill of driving a powerful and agile machine on some of the most challenging tracks in the world. It is a car that will make you proud to be part of the Mustang family.
