In celebration of its 50th anniversary, BMW M presents the all-new BMW M2 sports car. The tiny sports car's second generation offers a classic BMW M formula for sheer driving pleasure: The engine is an inline-six with rear-wheel drive and a manual transmission.

The first generation BMW M2 sports car was released in 2015, and about 60,000 are still on the road today. The brand-new BMW M2 sports car generation will be introduced in the spring of 2023.

BMW's DNA is heavily influenced by compact automobiles prioritizing pure driving pleasure. The renowned BMW 2002 turbo from 1973 and the iconic BMW 1M Coupé from 2011 are both mentioned in history books. The original generation BMW M2 has been acclaimed for its iconic driving characteristics. In other words, when BMW launches a new generation BMW M2 in the spring, the list is long.

The second generation BMW M2 sports car is built around compact dimensions and adapted powertrain and chassis technology from the BMW M3/BMW M4. It is 214 mm shorter and has a 110 mm shorter wheelbase than its bigger brothers. At the same time, its track width is much broader than that of the BMW 2 Series Coupé. Add to that a nearly flawlessly balanced weight distribution, and you have dimensions designed for dynamics and pure driving pleasure. You can also add an M carbon roof, which decreases the car's weight by around six pounds.

Under the bonnet is a three-liter engine with 460 hp, linear power delivery, and a voracious appetite for revs. A torque of 550 Nm is provided throughout a wide range of revs. The power is routed to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual transmission if requested. Both transmissions are designed for rapid and athletic gear changes.

The sprint from 0 to 100 km/h takes 4.1 and 4.3 seconds. The top speed is limited to 250 km/h but can be increased to 285 km/h if the M Driver's package is selected. Then there's a day of driving instruction at the BMW M Driving Experience.

The new BMW M2 has 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels. The proportions are the same as the BMW M3/BMW M4. The optional M carbon bucket seats from the larger brothers leave their unmistakable stamp on the driving experience and the interior.

In addition, the new operating system includes various M-specific options for the engine and chassis familiar from earlier BMW M models. The buttons and functions can change various settings on the steering wheel or the curved infotainment screen that spans the dashboard.
