The 2010 Hyundai Elantra: A Smart and Stylish Compact Car for Value-Conscious Drivers

Hyundai Elantra Blue

The award-winning Elantra enters 2010 with a bang, offering improved fuel efficiency, stylish design, and an array of smart features that make it a standout in the compact car segment. With the introduction of the all-new Blue model, the Elantra sets the bar higher against rising gas prices, achieving an estimated highway fuel economy rating of 35 miles per gallon. But fuel efficiency is just the beginning of what this remarkable car has to offer.

Hyundai engineers have implemented smart engineering enhancements across the 2010 Elantra lineup, improving fuel efficiency by up to four percent. The result is an impressive price-per-mile ratio, making the Elantra an even stronger value for 2010. To create the "Blue" edition, engineers have added a range of intelligent features, including a "smart" alternator management system, lower friction engine components, revised transmission gear ratios, engine calibration changes, and a shift indicator. These enhancements contribute to the Blue model's remarkable fuel economy while providing a smooth and enjoyable driving experience.

But the improvements don't stop with the Blue edition. The entire Elantra lineup benefits from the lower friction engine components and "smart" alternator management system. Additionally, an improved lock-up torque converter maximizes fuel economy at highway speeds. These enhancements ensure that all Elantra models deliver exceptional efficiency and performance.

Beyond its fuel economy prowess, the 2010 Elantra offers a host of features designed to enhance comfort, convenience, and entertainment. All models come equipped with Hyundai's iPod®/USB auxiliary inputs, allowing drivers to easily connect and charge their audio devices. Music lovers will appreciate the inclusion of XM Satellite Radio and standard auxiliary input jacks, which enable seamless integration of iPods and other audio devices with the car's six-speaker audio system. The new audio display provides easy access to song/artist/title information, allowing both the driver and passengers to control the music effortlessly.

Safety is a top priority for Hyundai, and the Elantra doesn't disappoint. Electronic Stability Control (ESC), a groundbreaking safety technology, comes standard on the Elantra SE. ESC monitors the driver's intended course and the vehicle's response, applying individual wheel braking or reducing engine power as necessary to help correct understeer or oversteer. According to research by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), widespread adoption of ESC could prevent up to 10,000 fatal vehicle crashes each year.

The Elantra has also received excellent safety ratings, including a five-star frontal and four-star side crash rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in the compact passenger car segment. In the IIHS's frontal offset test, the Elantra earned a "Good" rating, the Institute's highest accolade. With the addition of a standard Tire Pressure Monitoring System and a comprehensive set of airbags, the Elantra offers a safe and secure driving experience.

In terms of design, the 2010 Elantra exudes confidence and style. With its chrome headlight bezels, waterfall chrome grille, and chrome rear trim, the Elantra makes a premium statement. The sculpted surfaces and expressive bodyside character line give the car a sleek and modern appearance. Inside, the Elantra offers a spacious and comfortable cabin, surpassing the Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla in interior room. The use of high-quality materials, modern finishes, and thoughtful design touches create a sophisticated and upscale environment.

Under the hood, the Elantra boasts a super-clean engine that meets stringent emissions standards. Most Elantras sold in California, Oregon, and several Northeast states are certified as Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV) by the EPA. This clean engine technology puts the Elantra on par with many hybrid electric vehicles, highlighting Hyundai's commitment to the environment.

The Elantra's suspension and steering systems have been carefully tuned to deliver a comfortable ride and responsive handling. The fully independent suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars, and motor-driven rack-and-pinion steering provide a precise and enjoyable driving experience. The Elantra's braking system, equipped with ABS and Brake Assist, ensures optimal stopping power in various conditions.

Hyundai offers three trim levels for the 2010 Hyundai Elantra, catering to different preferences and budgets. The Elantra Blue edition stands out as the perfect choice for value-conscious drivers, delivering exceptional fuel economy and an impressive list of standard features. The Elantra GLS adds a four-speed automatic transmission and additional convenience features, while the sporty SE model offers a range of performance enhancements and upscale amenities.

As with all Hyundai vehicles, the Elantra is backed by Hyundai's industry-leading warranty, providing peace of mind to owners. The Hyundai Advantage includes a five-year/60,000-mile bumper-to-bumper protection, a 10-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, and seven-year/unlimited mileage anti-perforation coverage. Additionally, 24-hour roadside assistance coverage is included for five years, further enhancing the ownership experience.

In conclusion, the 2010 Hyundai Elantra impresses on all fronts. Its fuel efficiency, smart features, stylish design, and commitment to safety make it a top choice in the compact car segment. Whether you're a value-conscious driver, a music lover, or someone who appreciates a comfortable and safe ride, the Elantra offers an exceptional driving experience that is hard to beat. With its winning combination of performance, style, and value, the Elantra is truly a smart purchase for discerning car buyers.
