Peugeot E-208 GTi Specs: 281 HP, LSD, and 5.5-Second Sprint

Peugeot E-208 GTi

The Peugeot E-208 GTi puts a hard number on the return of Peugeot's hot hatch badge: 281 hp, 345 Nm of torque, and 0-62 mph in 5.5 seconds. That makes this small electric hatch one of the most serious B-segment performance cars heading for European buyers.

Peugeot Sport handled the engineering. That detail counts. The same group tied to the 9X8 endurance racing program tuned the motor control software, chassis balance, cooling logic, brakes, steering, and traction hardware rather than treating the GTi badge as trim-level theater.

Peugeot E-208 GTi Specs: Power, Range, Price, and Charging

Looking at the data, the electric hot hatch uses the same 54 kWh gross battery as the standard E-208, with 51 kWh usable capacity. Specifically, Peugeot Sport changed the battery cooling strategy so the car can hold power output under harder driving, including mountain roads and track-style use.

In addition, Peugeot quotes up to 233 miles of WLTP range with Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3 tires, while the standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S setup drops that figure to about 219 miles. That trade makes sense. A stickier tire adds rolling resistance, but it also lets the chassis use the motor's instant torque without turning every corner exit into a front-tire complaint department.

Chassis Tuning: Why the E-208 GTi Needs Real Hardware

The Peugeot E-208 GTi chassis uses more than power software. Peugeot lowered the body by 25 mm, or about 0.98 inch, and widened the tracks by 56 mm front and 28 mm rear, equal to about 2.2 inches and 1.1 inches. That wider stance reduces lateral weight transfer and gives the 18-inch wheels more work space inside the arches.

By comparison, many compact EVs rely on acceleration alone. The E-208 GTi adds the hardware a front-drive performance car needs:

  • Mechanical limited-slip differential inside the reduction gearbox
  • 18-inch wheels with 215/40 R18 tires
  • 355 mm front brake discs, or about 14 inches
  • Fixed four-piston front calipers
  • 31 mm rear anti-roll bar
  • GTi-specific springs and dampers with hydraulic bump stops
  • Sport ESP mode with regenerative braking disabled in Sport mode

From an expert perspective, the limited-slip differential matters as much as the horsepower. Front-drive EVs deliver peak torque instantly, so the inside front tire can unload fast during corner exit. The mechanical differential controls that torque split with less delay than brake-based traction control.

Peugeot GTi Design: 205 DNA Without Costume Work

The Peugeot 205 GTi connection runs through the design, but the E-208 GTi avoids cartoon nostalgia. The perforated 18-inch wheels reference the old 205 GTi wheel pattern while cooling the bigger front brakes. Red detailing appears on the grille, headlights, wheel arches, C-pillar badges, brake calipers, rear spoiler, carpets, seatbelts, dashboard stitching, and steering wheel.

The cabin uses a compact steering wheel with leather, Alcantara sections, red branding, GTi-specific performance pages, red digital graphics, and heavily bolstered front seats. Consequently, the driver gets a small-car cockpit built around control points rather than lounge furniture.

Pro-Tips: Should You Pick Range Tires or Performance Tires?

Choose the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S setup when grip, braking feel, and steering response rank first. Pick the Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3 setup when range takes priority and you want the highest WLTP number.

The difference reaches about 14 miles on the WLTP cycle. On a short commute, that gap will rarely change your charging habits. On a back-road weekend, the Michelin package may give the GTi its sharper character.

Is the Peugeot E-208 GTi Worth Watching From the US?

Yes, even without US sales plans. The Peugeot E-208 GTi shows where the small hot hatch moves next: less engine noise, more torque control, heavier brake hardware, and battery cooling tuned for repeatable power. That formula will pressure the Alpine A290, Mini JCW Electric, and Opel Corsa GSE.

Peugeot built the first all-electric GTi with real chassis parts, not badge glue. That makes it relevant for American enthusiasts who still miss small, sharp hatchbacks and wonder what replaces them when gasoline no longer owns the fun column.
