The 2020 Toyota Highlander has just reached dealers in the United States, but by the year 2021, the Highlander will be receiving for the first time an XSE version that has a more aggressive interior and exterior design, as well as improvements to its powertrain.
Starting with the exterior, the Highlander XSE has a grille, front fascia and front spoiler that differentiate it from the regular model. The grill is smaller, which makes the fascia bigger and gives it a sportier look compared to the other versions.
Inside, the Toyota Highlander XSE features red and black seats with fabric inserts, as well as finishes that mimic the carbon fibre on the instrument panel and dashboard. The interior, in general, has a mixture of black and red colours in the seats, centre console and door panels that undoubtedly distinguish it from the regular model.
In this new generation, the XSE version offers a JBL audio system with 11 speakers, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa and Android Auto, five USB ports and navigation system.
What remains the same is the engine, since all versions are still powered by the 3.5-litre V-6 engine that delivers 295 horsepower coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 2021 Toyota Highlander XSE will be launched this fall and the brand expects about 12 percent of three-row SUV customers to opt for this version.
Pricing has not been released, but it will probably start around $42,000.
