Renault has just unveiled the new Espace, a model synonymous with family transportation since 1984. But the sixth-generation Espace is not your typical minivan. It's a sleek and spacious SUV that combines seven-seater practicality with a hybrid's efficiency and the style of a premium crossover.
The new Renault Espace is based on the same platform as the Renault Austral and Nissan Qashqai, two of Europe's most popular compact SUVs. But the Espace is longer, lower, and lighter than its predecessors, offering more room for passengers and cargo while reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
The Renault Espace is powered by a 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine that works together with two electric motors to deliver 199 horsepower. The hybrid system can operate in full electric mode for up to 31 miles (50 kilometers) on a single charge, or in hybrid mode for up to 466 miles (750 kilometers) of combined range. Renault claims that the Espace can achieve an impressive 50 mpg (4.7 liters per 100 kilometers) in mixed driving, and emit only 104 grams of CO2 per kilometer.
The Espace also boasts a high-tech and connected interior, with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 9.3-inch head-up display. The cabin is equipped with up to eight USB-C ports, two 12V sockets, and a wireless charging pad for all your devices. The Espace also offers up to 32 driver assistance systems, including adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert.
The Espace comes in three trim levels: Techno, Iconic, and Esprit Alpine. The latter is the most exclusive and sporty version, featuring unique design elements such as blue accents, black wheels, and Alpine logos. The Espace also offers a choice of five or seven seats, with the second row being adjustable and reclining for optimal comfort. The third row can be folded flat to create a large cargo area of up to 64.2 cubic feet (1,818 liters).
The new Renault Espace is not just another SUV. It's a status symbol that carries the legacy of five previous generations of minivans, but with a modern twist. It's a hybrid SUV that combines performance, efficiency, comfort, and style in one package. It's a Renault Espace that will appeal to both families and enthusiasts alike.
The new Renault Espace will go on sale in Europe later this year, with prices to be announced soon. Unfortunately, it won't be available in the US market, where Renault has no presence. But if you're looking for a similar vehicle that offers hybrid technology, spaciousness, and versatility, you might want to check out the Toyota Highlander Hybrid or the Ford Explorer Hybrid.
