Toyota does not give up the classic models despite the accentuated electrification of the entire range. From this fall, the GT86 coupe model receives a successor called Toyota GR 86.
As before, the model was developed in collaboration with Subaru. However, the new Subaru BRZ will not be marketed in Europe, thus, Toyota remains the only chance for European clients to have access to this sports car.
The new Toyota GR 86 adopts a 2.4-litre engine with horizontally opposed cylinders which develops 235 hp at 7,000 rpm. The maximum torque of the engine is 250 Nm. The Toyota GR86 is expected to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 6.3 seconds, compared to 7.4 seconds previously. It goes without saying that the rear-wheel-drive remains active.
The sports car coupé grew slightly in length to 4.27 meters.
Inside, Toyota has relied on the classic sports style, but the dashboard is now digital, and the centre console is dominated by an 8-inch touch display. The basic architecture of the cockpit behind the steep three-spoke steering wheel remains unchanged.
The new Toyota GR 86 sports car will initially be launched on the Japanese market this fall, and will later be offered in other markets.
