Cheap cars are superb for young drivers

While many individuals take it for granted, driving is actually exciting and quite liberating. For young motorists, there’s nothing better to look forward to than finally getting out on the road in their own cars, however, with the prices of brand new autos rising all the time, many could be forgiven for thinking it’s too much trouble. What’s the solution? Buy cheap cars second hand!

Pre owned motors are fantastic for young drivers because they don’t cost a great deal up front, and can be extremely cheap to run. Everyone knows that insurance is a killer when you first start out, and petrol prices aren’t exactly low, so minimising costs is the priority. The fact that most used cars carry price reductions of anything from 15-50% (and sometimes more) means that getting behind the wheel doesn’t have to be financially daunting at all.

But what kinds of cars should newbies go for? Well to keep costs as low as possible, something small in terms of actual and engine size. A 3 door hatchback like a Volkswagen Polo would be a great idea for example. Try to stay within the 1.0 to 1.3 litre category, and if possible get a diesel as they are cheaper to fuel. The point is this- a first car doesn’t need to be fast or flashy. Rather, it should be economical, easy to drive and confidence building.

Look online to get the best deals, and always be sure to visit as many different websites as possible. That way you’ll be able to get a good overview of price, availability and quality. While the latter certainly isn’t something you need to be worried about, it’s still worth giving some consideration to as the last thing you want is to get a car prone to faults that need fixing. Check out the most popular sites like Teletextcars.co.uk as well as smaller, more localised ones and you can’t go wrong.

So if you’re a new driver who has just passed their test, congratulations, but now it’s time to enter the real world. Getting your first car doesn’t have to be expensive or difficult however- just look online for used motors, and buy something small!
