Alfa Romeo has unveiled the new Giulia and Stelvio models. They offer even better connectivity and a fully digital instrument display, in addition to a design that has been revised in detail and emphasizes the relationship to the Alfa Romeo Tonale. Like their award-winning predecessors, the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio feature perfect weight distribution, class-leading driving dynamics, innovative technology, and modern engines.
The new headlight design is the most noticeable feature of the new Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio models. They are now structured in 3+3 elements, similar to the Alfa Romeo Tonale. Driving lights, daytime running lights, and indicators are formed by the three modules. This configuration pays homage to several Alfa Romeo models from the early 1990s, including the Alfa Romeo SZ Zagato coupe and the Alfa Romeo Proteo concept car.
The headlights are equipped with full LED matrix technology. This technology extends headlight life, saves energy, and provides approximately twice the light output of conventional headlights. They combine improved safety with reduced eye strain, increasing driving comfort.
The adaptive headlights adjust the low beam based on the speed and road conditions. Adaptive high beam dims automatically to avoid blinding oncoming or preceding vehicles. Cornering lights are integrated into the headlight modules. When the doors are opened or closed with the remote control, the "Welcome and Goodbye" function turns on the headlights automatically.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio's rear lights are made using LED technology, with glossy smoked glass on the Stelvio and transparent glass on the Giulia.
Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio are equipped with even more modern technology in the 2023 model year, which means more comfort and connectivity. At the same time, pure driving pleasure is increased.
The digital instrument display is now a TFT monitor with a screen diagonal of 12.3 inches (31.2 centimeters). The fully digital display shows the most critical vehicle information and the parameters required for autonomous driving.
There are three layout options for the digital instrument display. EVOLVED mode, which represents the future of Alfa Romeo design, makes extensive use of the screen's central area. RELAX has a simplified representation that focuses on comfort functions. HERITAGE is also inspired by iconic models from the 1960s and 1970s. The km/h figures on the right-hand side of the circular speedometer scale are rotated by 180 degrees.
The infotainment systems in the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio are even more powerful. Online software updates are then possible ("over the air"). The Alfa Connect services' content includes, for example, the "My Remote" service. This enables certain vehicle functions (such as activating/deactivating door locking) to be controlled remotely via a smartphone or smartwatch.
NFT technology, which Alfa Romeo introduced as a world first on the Alfa Romeo Tonale model, is new for the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio. NFT refers to a digital certificate that is not forgery-proof (non-fungible token). This technology is based on the blockchain concept, which immutably records the most important stages of the vehicle's life. This one-of-a-kind feature highlights Alfa Romeo's innovation strategy.
With the owner's permission, the NFT records critical vehicle data and generates a certificate that can be used to prove, for example, that the vehicle has been properly maintained. This documentation will, among other things, increase the residual value. NFT certification provides an additional layer of security on which sellers, dealers, and buyers can rely in the used vehicle market.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio come standard with an integrated braking system (IBS), which connects electronic assistance systems like ESC to the mechanical brake booster. As a result, the brakes react extremely quickly and have record-breaking braking distances. By replacing the components required in conventional systems with a unit consisting of a pump, brake booster, and ESP control unit, the electro-mechanical braking system (brake-by-wire) allows for a significant reduction in the number of components in the engine compartment. This reduces the vehicle's weight and increases its agility.
The eight-speed automatic transmission from ZF and the directly geared steering contribute to the outstanding driving dynamics of the Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio. It also supports manual shifting via aluminum shift paddles behind the steering wheel.
2023 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Alfa Romeo Stelvio are available with the 2.0 Turbo Q4, 206 kW (280 hp), all-wheel drive or the 2.0 diesel Q4, 154 kW (210 hp), all-wheel drive.
Both models also include various electronic driver assistance systems (ADAS) that assist without impairing driving pleasure. As a result, Level 2 autonomous driving has been achieved. This level is reached when the vehicle, under certain conditions, takes control of the accelerator, brakes, and steering. This is accomplished through electronic systems, which, while requiring constant monitoring by the driver, assist him and thus provide greater comfort on long journeys. However, the driver must remain alert and keep his hands on the steering wheel.
