The new limited edition BMW 3.0 CSL sports car with 560 hp

The new limited edition BMW 3.0 CSL sports car with 560 hp

As the milestone year winds down, BMW M unveils its exclusive unique model. The new BMW 3.0 CSL is a technological tour de force that sums up the brand's fifty years of racing enthusiasm and ties that heritage to the car's renowned model name.

The BMW 3.0 CSL results from a collaborative effort spanning the company's five decades of racing experience at BMW M. Dynamic outward elegance, a classic sports car interior, sophisticated lightweight construction, a straight six-cylinder engine, a manual gearbox, and rear-wheel drive are all hallmarks of a classic BMW M vehicle. Therefore, experiencing the thrill of driving a BMW 3.0 CSL is not only a unique high-performance opportunity but also a profoundly moving meeting between the past and the present.

BMW 3.0 CSL sports car

The BMW 3.0 CSL is a time capsule for a notion born in the 1970s: bringing racing technology built for pure driving enjoyment to public roads. The BMW 3.0 CSL is the rebirth of a renowned sports vehicle, and it lives up to the legendary "CSL" (coupé, sport, light) designation as a pure sports car for both the track and the road. The coupe design has always been associated with a focus on sporting elegance and dynamic expression. The vehicle's drivetrain and suspension are based on BMW M's cutting-edge innovations for racing cars and high-performance sports automobiles. The BMW 3.0 CSL's power-to-weight ratio is an impressive 2.9 kilos per horsepower, largely thanks to the substantial usage of carbon fiber in the vehicle's construction.

BMW 3.0 CSL sports car

The BMW 3.0 CSL sports car is one of a kind because it is powered by the most potent straight six-cylinder engine ever installed in a BMW M automobile, producing a maximum of 560 hp and 550 Nm of torque. A six-speed manual transmission well matched to the engine's power output is standard. Quick and accurate gear changes are made possible with a clearly articulated shifting motion, enhancing the driving experience. White in color, with an etched shift diagram and the number 50, the unusual gear lever was designed exclusively for the BMW 3.0 CSL. According to BMW M's conventional design philosophy, all of the engine's output goes to the rear wheels.

The BMW 3.0 CSL is a throwback to earlier BMW CSL models with its coupe-like dimensions and traditional vehicle design that combines a front-mounted engine, a manual transmission, and rear-wheel drive. The famous coupé from the 1970s is also known for its unique aerodynamics, aggressively shaped wheel arches, and dramatic rear spoiler, among other things.

Powerful wheel wells make room for Y-spoke wheels made of forged alloy. Michelin tires explicitly designed for the BMW 3.0 CSL are mounted on 20-inch front and 21-inch back rims. The sidewalls of the tires feature the number 50, another subtle nod to BMW M GmbH's birthday. A powerful aesthetic may be seen from the back. The distinctive rear wing updates the "Batmobile's" iconic aesthetic.

BMW 3.0 CSL sports car

BMW M automobiles have always adhered to design principles, and the 3.0 CSL is no exception. These principles emphasize the importance of developing and designing specific design components following technical requirements for cooling air supply, aerodynamic balance, and driving dynamics. This is why the BMW 3.0 CSL sports car is such a powerful and honest way to show a passionate love for racing that will never go out of style.

Large quantities of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) are employed in addition to the minimal insulating materials used to decrease the overall mass further. Almost the entire BMW 3.0 CSL's exterior is made of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic. All carbon fiber parts for the BMW 3.0 CSL are made in limited quantities by hand. Other vehicle components are likewise significantly lighter, thanks to careful material selection and cutting-edge design techniques. The BMW 3.0 CSL's rear silencer is composed of titanium, around 4.3 kg lighter than a standard steel component, while the car's top spoiler is constructed of glass fiber-reinforced plastic.

Alpine White paint complements the decals in BMW M GmbH's traditional hues on this BMW 3.0 CSL. The compelling aesthetics of the coupé are emphasized by how its lines mirror those of its dynamic surfaces. Experts spend a tremendous amount of time and energy applying the base color and the M-stripes by hand. The BMW 3.0 CSL utilizes a unique painting procedure that involves painting 22 separate pieces.

BMW 3.0 CSL sports car

For this special occasion, BMW will produce precisely 50 models. The limited edition is manufactured in Moosthenning at the BMW Group's Dingolfing plant. Both in Munich and at the BMW Group's component facility in Landshut, the finest carbon fiber-reinforced plastic (CFRP) parts are made by hand. The BMW 3.0 CSL, though it had a limited production run, was developed in full-series fashion as a separate vehicle from BMW M GmbH.
