Basically, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 is an electric variant of the GLA compact SUV. There are not many competitors in the class for compact, electric SUVs, but later this year the Audi Q4 e-Tron will arrive and with a somewhat smaller price tag and the Kia e-Niro will also be available.
It is also not to be mistaken that EQA and GLA are siblings. But in fact, there are a number of changes in the design front and rear that reveal that this is the electric variant, EQA.
On the front, the first thing that stands out is the massive grill, as electric cars do not need cooling to the same degree as cars with internal combustion engines. On the front, there is also the LED strip across the grill, as we know it from the larger EQC. A detail that should be repeated on all the electric models from Mercedes. The rear end has also got a LED strip across and opposite the front, it actually looks pretty good at the rear. Especially in combination with the new taillights that give the EQA a rather aggressive look.
The new 2021 Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 has a battery of 66.5 kWh, provides 190 hp and can drive up to 420 km on one charge. By comparison, the Kia e-Niro manages 455 km with a 64 kWh battery.
The battery in EQA can be charged with 11 kW in your charging box at home or with up to 100 kW with a fast charger on the go. With 100 kW, a charge from 10 to 80% takes about 30 min. When charging at home with 11 kW, it will take about 6 hours for a full battery.
Inside, the EQA and GLA are confusingly similar with two 10.25-inch displays. The screens include the MBUX infotainment system.
The new Mercedes-Benz EQA 250 costs around 47,000 euros. Later in the year, the EQA will come with more power, two engines and four-wheel drive.
