Electrified power, legendary 4x4 capabilities, and awe-inspiring performance focus on this year's Easter Jeep Safari. The Jeep brand and the team at Jeep Performance Parts by Mopar (JPP) are showing their extraordinary lineup of custom-built 4x4 and 4xe concept vehicles to conquer the iconic Red Rock compound in Moab, Utah, USA. Thousands of off-road fans and Jeep enthusiasts will descend on Moab April 9-17 to participate in the week-long annual tradition of trail rides and technical off-road driving.
"Easter Jeep Safari is an excellent chance for Jeep to push the boundaries of four-wheel-drive vehicle development and, most importantly, engage with our customers," said Jim Morrison, senior vice president, and general manager at Jeep. "Moab is a ritual of passage for numerous Jeep owners, and possessing a Jeep means truly understanding that lifestyle – that's what defines the Jeep brand. So whether it's a Jeep concept vehicle or the latest Jeep production model, our customers have the opportunity to experience our passionate projects first-hand at this event.
Ten concept vehicles from Jeep and JPP feature advanced powertrains this year. The remarkable lineup highlights the triumphant return of the Jeep Wrangler Magneto, the Jeep brand's first battery-electric concept vehicle (BEV). The even more robust and qualified Jeep Wrangler Magneto 2.0 and four other Jeep 4xe concept vehicles demonstrate the brand's commitment to freedom with zero local emissions. In addition, each concept vehicle features JPP's latest production and prototype parts, engineered to exacting specifications for legendary 4x4 capabilities.
2022 Easter Jeep Safari concept vehicles include:
Jeep Wrangler Magneto 2.0
A year ago, the Jeep Wrangler Magneto concept vehicle demonstrated that a battery-electric powertrain would stay true to the Wrangler's heritage of on-road and off-road capability. This is how Jeep is committed to freedom with zero local emissions.
Magneto 2.0 powertrain fundamentals include:
- Custom designed axial flow electric motor, with a maximum speed of 5,250 rpm.
- Six-speed manual gearbox
- Four lithium-ion battery packs are located in the chassis for optimal weight distribution, with a total output of 70-kilowatt hours, operating an 800-volt system.
- An inverter derived from racing cars converts direct current into alternating current for the high-tech motor.
The peak current of the drive system has been more than doubled to 600 amps. This allows the Magneto 2.0 to instantly deliver up to 1,152 Newton meters of torque to the wheels, more than three times the torque of last year's concept car. And the 460 kW (625 hp) output is also sufficient for the most severe climbing challenges.
A new calibration of the electric powertrain maintains the peak current for up to ten seconds – you could think of it like electric nitrous oxide – and lets the Magneto 2.0 accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in two seconds.
Thanks to the 3.36 first gear ratio of the manual transmission, the Magneto 2.0 combined with the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon's Rock-Trac transfer case demonstrates the unparalleled rock-crawling ability. The driver-selectable maximum regeneration function also contributes to this, enabling a real "one-pedal" driving experience.
Getting all that torque to the ground requires a few hardware upgrades. First, the wheelbase of the two-door Wrangler body was lengthened by 30.5 centimeters. This creates additional space for drivetrain components and gives the Magneto 2.0 proportions similar to the 2004-06 Wrangler Unlimited "LJ." The whole thing is supplemented with a lift of 7.6 centimeters and 40-inch off-road tires on 20-inch wheels.
The rugged, all-terrain chassis includes a Dynatrac 60 Pro-Rock front axle and a massive Pro-Rock Dynatrac 80 rear axle with a 5.38 ratio and locks for both axles, plus a customized prop shaft and off-road suspension.
Custom lightweight bumpers and carbon fiber fender flares save weight, and these parts also improve the Magneto 2.0's departure angles on the trail. Surf Blue paintwork, a carbon fiber B-pillar, bikini top, and carbon fiber hood give the Magneto 2.0 a powerful look. The bespoke bonnet features a blue-tinted, transparent window that reveals the engine below.
Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk concept vehicle
Jeep will launch the first electrified Grand Cherokee (North America) this spring. The Easter Jeep Safari offers a great way to take production vehicles like the Grand Cherokee 4xe to the next level.
This inspired concept Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk exudes understated performance and quiet confidence. It combines Jeep's legendary 4x4 capability with electrified freedom for the ultimate in fuel efficiency and range.
The new Trailhawk 4xe is the most 4x4 capable and sustainable Grand Cherokee. It's conquered the Rubicon Trail in full electric mode and is now ready to tackle anything Moab offers. In addition, the Trailhawk 4xe features an electrically decoupled front anti-roll bar for better articulation for agility and traction on rocks and rough terrain. The Jeep Quadra-Lift air suspension also contributes to this, enabling maximum ground clearance and safe driving on the road.
Like the production version of the new Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk concept vehicle is powered by a hybrid powertrain with two electric motors and a 400-volt battery pack, a two-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine, and a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk concept vehicle's design reflects the passion of Jeep owners to venture off-road and explore the unknown. The signature off-road Industrial Blue exterior features signature Lagoon Blue Trailhawk tow hooks and a matte black and blue Trailhawk hood decal for anti-glare protection. Add to the adventure a custom-designed roof rack with integrated tie-down points and a black painted Rhino Liner roof, fog lamp bezels with quad LED fog lamps, and vinyl side graphics for debris protection. Mopar Skid Plates provide additional protection against the less forgiving elements of nature.
The interior is dominated by seats with saddle-colored covers and "Rodney" inserts in a houndstooth structure. The seats also feature signature 4xe Trailhawk logos and Surf Blue stitching. The Grand Cherokee 4xe Trailhawk rolls on 20-inch neutral gray metallic painted wheels in 33-inch BFG off-road tires. In addition, the concept vehicle's wheel arches are widened to perfectly complement the larger wheels and tires.
Jeep '41 Concept Vehicle
"Since 1941" is a prominent badge of honor on Jeep vehicles, a symbol of pride in the Jeep brand's long military heritage and legendary 4x4 capability for more than 80 years. During the Easter Jeep Safari, Jeep pays tribute to its automotive veterans and puts the spotlight on the Wrangler Willys.
Each Jeep vehicle also tells a unique story that dates back to the Willys MB - the dependable 4x4 vehicle commissioned by the US Army over 80 years ago. The Willys MB could do almost anything, went almost anywhere, and significantly impacted the 4x4s built after it.
The retro Willys concept vehicle for the Easter Jeep Safari 2022 combines military toughness and determination with the electric technology of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe plug-in hybrid powertrain enables a range of up to 53 kilometers (in the WLTP City cycle) with almost silent, locally emission-free, all-electric propulsion, making the Wrangler 4xe the most capable, technically advanced, and sustainable Wrangler.
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe's advanced powertrain offers a unique on- and off-road experience thanks to two electric motors, a high-voltage battery pack, and a modern 2.0 turbocharged petrol engine with direct injection and a robust TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.
The concept vehicle is painted in an olive green DRAB '41 finish, including the wheel covers and door mirror housings. The steel bumpers are powder-coated in black, Warn winch and JPP bumper bars complete the appearance. A retro tan soft top and JPP half doors provide the open-air experience.
Inside the '41 concept vehicle, the retro gear knob from Jeep Graphic Studio pairs perfectly with canvas-covered seats with digital camouflage inserts and Serafil 1043 stitching. A footwell lined with robust Rhino in DRAB '41 Matt Green provides the necessary durability in rugged use.
Jeep Rubicon 20th Anniversary Concept Vehicle
Iconic off-road destinations like the legendary Jeep Rubicon Trail in Northern California and the Red Rock Trails in upstate Moab, Utah, are places where SUV legends are born. Twenty years ago, Jeep introduced the most off-road capable production vehicle - the Jeep Wrangler Rubicon.
Based on a 2003 model year 2-door Jeep Wrangler, it was named after the legendary Rubicon Trail and took the industry by storm in the summer of 2002. The iconic Jeep Rubicon model, inspired by the fans who dreamed of an all-terrain master and often tried to put one together, was now available to order direct from the factory, backed by a factory warranty. In addition, the Jeep Rubicon featured options not found on any production Jeep at the time, including Dana 44 axles, front and rear locks, detachable front anti-roll bar, and oversized 31-inch off-road tires. Furthermore, it flared fenders, all of which combined to bring off-road driving to a new level.
The Jeep Wrangler Rubicon remains a "proof of concept" where lessons learned in off-road meccas like Moab and feedback from fans and loyal Jeep customers continue to advance the brand and the entire Jeep lineup.
Based on the fastest, most powerful Wrangler to date, the Jeep Rubicon 392, the Rubicon 20th Anniversary Concept vehicle continues the legacy created two decades ago by setting the benchmark for performance and efficiency.
The modified Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon 392 features an active dual-mode performance exhaust that can switch between wild and outrageous, a performance hood with center scoop, half-doors, and a Sky one-touch power soft top detachable side panels.
The Granite Crystal matte wrap is accented with gold tow hooks and plaques, a Rubicon 20th Anniversary decal on the hood, an American flag decal on the fenders, and a Mopar supercharger.
Added capabilities include:
- A two-inch lift kit from JPP.
- 17-inch beadlock-ready Mopar wheels with 37-inch Mud Terrain tires.
- Steel bumpers.
- A Warn winch.
- A steel skid plate.
Jeep Bob concept vehicle
The Jeep Bob concept vehicle aims to blur the lines between two iconic SUVs, the Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Gladiator. The long overhang of the pickup's bed is shortened to create the ultimate off-roader.
Based on a Jeep Gladiator Rubicon, the most striking features of this concept truck aren't what's there but what's missing. All four doors and B-pillars have been removed for ultimate open-air freedom. A tarpaulin stretches almost to the rear of the tailor-made hardtop.
The loading area of the Gladiator has been shortened by a good 30 centimeters, and the steel bumpers improve the angle of departure. Far-cut fenders create more room for maneuver for the 40-inch tires on 20-inch beadlock wheels, as does the 7.5-centimeter lift. Dynatrac Pro-Rock 60 axles supported by a mix of King Coil coil springs and bypass shocks also add to the off-road fun.
The multi-layered exterior paintwork with glossy and matte finishes brings flair and texture. A ventilated carbon hood gives a striking look and provides the engine with enough breathing air. The Jeep Bob concept vehicle is powered by a 3.0 turbocharged eco-diesel V6 engine and a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission.
Jeep D-Coder concept vehicle by JPP
The gloss black Jeep Gladiator D-Coder showcases more than 35 JPP and Mopar accessories, each painted in contrasting Maraschino Red and labeled, making this high-performance concept vehicle a rolling catalog of factory-tested accessories is.
Each QR code on the Jeep D-Coder concept leads to a live link on the Mopar eStore website, with specific part numbers, specifications, and pricing information. Extended QR codes on the loading area and the bonnet link to the current JPP catalog.
The first something that captures the eye at the front of the Gladiator D-Coder is the three-piece modular Rubicon bumper with a front bar and a pair of TYRI 7" LED terrain lights over an integrated Rubicon Warn winch.
A JPP two-inch lift kit with FOX shocks provides ample clearance for the JPP 17 x 8.5-inch five-spoke beadlock wheels shod in 37-inch BFGoodrich KM3 tires.
A JPP intake snorkel keeps water out of the 3.6 V6 Pentastar engine on the passenger side. A two-flow catalyst dual exhaust system from Mopar completes the drive.
The windshield made of JPP Gorilla Glass is up to three times stronger than one made of standard material, and in front of the A-pillars, a pair of TYRI 5-inch LED lights on JPP mounting brackets ensure foresight.
JPP Rock Rails protect the lower body panels and sit directly below the JPP tube doors with matching JPP door mirrors. Additional Rock-Rails protect the cargo area behind the rear wheels and feature a replaceable Nylon Rock-Rail Trim Cover.
The high-contrast maraschino red continues inside the Jeep Gladiator D-Coder, where both rows of seats are upholstered in Katzkin leather. A QR code on each backside links directly to the Katzkin website for details on leather options, including colors, stitching, accents, and real-time pricing information.
A set of Mopar lashing rails carries a THULE loading basket for additional storage space on the loading area with sprayed-on Mopar surface protection.
Jeep Birdcage concept vehicle by JPP
The Jeep Wrangler 4xe Birdcage is an extreme open-air 4x4 plug-in hybrid concept machine and showcases bespoke accessory innovations from JPP and Mopar.
Atop the first JPP two-inch lift kit with FOX shocks designed specifically for the plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe, the lively off-roader rides in Eagle Brown with Granite Crystal Metallic and Surf Blue accents.
A custom-made skid plate improves the front approach angle of the Wrangler 4xe Birdcage between two steel brackets that are five centimeters thick. The construction also integrates and protects the Warn winch.
The JPP five-spoke wheels measuring 17 x 8.5 inches are fitted with 37-inch BFGoodrich KM3 tires. Flat fenders at the front and rear for larger wheel/tire combinations provide the necessary additional space. In addition, the front fenders have integrated daytime running lamps that off-road enthusiasts can remove for extra freedom of wheel movement before extreme off-road situations.
Headlights under the vehicle floor on all four corners of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe Birdcage promise a clear view of the ground, and should an enormous boulder be overlooked, protective tubes under the doors prevent damage to the body.
True off-road adventurers will appreciate that the windshield and wipers have been removed. Instead, an attached panel cleanly closes the dashboard to the bonnet. In addition, three 14-inch JPP TYRI LED off-road headlights provide sleek, modern lighting at the top between the A-pillars.
Inside, Tobacco Leaf and Cocoa Brown leather seats feature distinctive seat inserts and Surf Blue accent stitching repeated on the instrument panel, steering wheel, and shifter.
A JPP instrument accessory rail securely holds various mobile devices for driver and passenger. In addition, armor-like vinyl flooring throughout the cab provides a durable, easy-to-maintain surface with flush-out drain plugs.
The Mopar team created the Add-A-Trunk concept for the liftgate, which provides security for accessories when the roof is off. Designed for all Jeep Wrangler models that can easily accommodate a refrigerator, Add-A-Trunk uses gas-assisted shock absorbers to raise the cargo floor out of the way when the hatch is open. Eight lashing eyes and five hooks for shopping bags provide additional functionality—a 600-pound Rhino Rack cargo basket atop the roll cage for extra storage.
