Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric: The Family-Friendly SUV That's Greener Than Ever

Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric

The electric vehicle market is growing rapidly, with more and more automakers launching new models that offer zero-emission mobility, lower running costs, and enhanced performance. However, not all electric vehicles are created equal. Some are designed to appeal to a specific niche, while others aim to cater to a broader audience. One of the latter is the Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric, a family-friendly SUV that combines spaciousness, performance, and sustainability in a unique way.

The Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric is the latest addition to Renault's E-Tech range, which includes the Zoe, the Twingo, the Renault Megane, and the Renault Captur. The E-Tech range is based on Renault's vision of electric mobility, which is to offer vehicles that are affordable, accessible, and adaptable to different needs and lifestyles. The Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric is no exception, as it is designed to meet the expectations of families who want a versatile, comfortable, and eco-friendly vehicle.

Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric

A Roomy and High-Tech Interior

One of the main advantages of the Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric is its interior space, which is made possible by its innovative platform. The SUV is based on the same CMF-EV platform as the Megane E-Tech Electric and the Nissan Ariya, which means it has a flat floor, a large wheelbase (2.77 meters), and a slim battery pack (11 cm thick). The result is a roomy interior that can accommodate five passengers and their luggage, with up to 38.7 liters of storage spaces throughout the cabin.

The Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric also offers a high-tech cockpit with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The SUV also features a head-up display, wireless charging, and a range of driver assistance systems, such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, traffic sign recognition, emergency braking assist, and parking assist.

The interior design of the Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric is also inspired by nature, with organic shapes, soft colors, and natural materials. The SUV does not use any leather or chrome in its interior, opting for vegan-friendly fabrics and matte finishes instead. The dashboard structure is made from 80 percent recycled material, the carpets are made from 97 percent recycled plastic bottles, and the headlining is made from 99.5 percent recycled plastic bottles.

Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric

A Powerful and Efficient Performance

Another key aspect of the Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric is its performance and efficiency. The SUV comes in two powertrain options, both using a front-mounted electric motor that does not require rare earths. The Standard range version has a 60 kWh battery pack that delivers 170 horsepower and 206 pound-feet of torque and can travel up to 260 miles on a single charge. The High range version has an 87 kWh battery pack that produces 220 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque and can go up to 385 miles on a single charge.

Both versions can be fast-charged at up to 130 kW and 150 kW, respectively, which means they can recover up to 186 miles of range in just 30 minutes. They also come with a heat pump and a thermal management system that optimizes the battery temperature and reduces energy consumption. Additionally, the SUV has four driving modes (Eco, Normal, Sport, and MySense) and three regenerative braking modes (Off, Normal, and Boost) that allow the driver to customize the driving experience according to their preferences.

The Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric also boasts dynamic handling thanks to its low center of gravity (due to the battery placement), its multi-link rear suspension (which improves comfort and stability), and its four-wheel steering system (which enhances agility and maneuverability).

Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric

A Sustainable and Innovative Design

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric is its sustainability. The SUV is designed to minimize its environmental impact from production to end-of-life. Not only does it use recycled materials for most of its components (as mentioned above), but it also features a Solarbay glass roof that is made from 50 percent waste material and can opacify to reduce heat gain and glare. The roof also has photovoltaic cells that can generate electricity to power some of the vehicle's functions, such as the air conditioning or the infotainment system.

The Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric also showcases Renault's design philosophy of "sensual tech," which harmoniously combines emotion and technology. The SUV has a sleek and aerodynamic silhouette (with a drag coefficient of 0.28), a distinctive front end (with a large diamond-shaped logo and LED headlights), and a futuristic rear end (with a light strip that spans the entire width of the vehicle). The SUV also has a modular roof that can be customized with different colors and patterns and a panoramic sunroof that can be opened or closed.

The Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric is expected to hit the European market in early 2024, with prices starting from around $40,000. It will be available in six colors (Glacier White, Diamond Black, Titanium Grey, Flame Red, Celadon Blue, and Quartz) and three trim levels (Zen, Intens, and Initiale Paris). The SUV will also come with an eight-year or 100,000-mile warranty for the battery pack.

The Renault Scenic E-Tech Electric is a bold statement from Renault, showing that electric vehicles can be both practical and eco-friendly. It's an SUV that appeals to families who want to enjoy a spacious, comfortable, and high-tech ride without compromising on performance or sustainability. It's an SUV that's revolutionizing the family SUV segment.
