The Tonale (named after a mountain pass in the Italian Alps) inaugurates the first compact SUV and especially the first rechargeable hybrid for Alfa Romeo at 2019 Geneva International Motor Show. Alfa Romeo was able to take full advantage of the FCA Group's synergies as the Tonale platform was taken from by the Jeep Compass.
With compact dimensions (length of about 4.4 m), the Alfa Romeo Tonale will battle on the most promising segment of the moment: the medium-sized SUVs, category where the BMW X1 and Volvo XC40 already rules.
Beautifully drawn, the Tonale is undoubtedly an Alfa Romeo.
Alfa does not provide information about the engine. We can only assume that the standard Tonale receives at least the hybrid system of the Jeep Compass, developing 240 hp cumulated. But by the time of its commercialization, in two or three years, there is plenty of time to evolve.
